By the end of this year, Apache Egypt will have built 200 one-room, girl-friendly schools in three Egyptian governorates.

At a recent celebration attende3d by many Egyptian officials and international figures who work for Apache, the Apache group announced that almost all of these schools have been finished.

Officials at Apache, an international oil firm which has been working in Egypt for a decade now say their company wants to play a greater role in Egyptian society.

Apache is the largest US investor in Egypt and the first girl-friendly school it funded was constructed back in September 2004.

Each school costs US$15,000 to build and allows for the education of 35 girls by two teachers who have received modern training. At the ceremony, Apache and the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood have announced the intention to build more girls' schools in the next few years. The priority is to build them in rural and poor districts.
